Two weeks after local trains were opened for all, Mumbai reported a jump in the count of fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Wednesday travelled in local train from Byculla to CSMT & urged people to wear masks. "After Railway services resumed, COVID-19 cases spiked in not just Mumbai but entire state. Lockdown won't be implemented, but situation is worrisome", she said.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday said that it is in the hands of people to avert another COVID-induced lockdown by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

60 out of 100 people travelling by trains don't wear masks which has led to the increase in the cases.

Against this backdrop, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation and the administration are on high alert mode. The civic body in a joint drive with Mumbai division of Railway has decided to take against passengers who do not wear masks.

If the cases continue to rise and people ignore COVID norms and regulations, then BMC will not hesitate in taking a strong measure within the next 10 days, Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC.
