Covid-19 positive woman with 100% infection in lungs gives birth to baby girl

A unique incident has taken place in Baramati which underlines the definition of mother. A pregnant woman whose lungs were 100 percent covid infected gave birth to a baby safely with prompt treatment and strong willpower. Doctors boosted her morale by placing the newborn on the mother's lap on a ventilator.A team of doctors at Mehta Hospital in Baramati performed the delivery of the woman. On April 6, a 28-year-old pregnant woman was admitted to the hospital. She hails from a farming family in Deulgaon Raje and has a 3-year-old daughter. Her whole family was covid positive.  When she was admitted, due to covid she was suffering from fever, cough and shortness of breath.

Her oxygen levels ranged from 90 to 92. After two or three days, the oxygen level dropped further. During treatment, she had to be put on oxygen. On April 10 her health deteriorated she had to be put on a ventilator. The woman's HRCT score was 25 and she was in a critical condition. The blood report was also not good. That's when she started experiencing labor pain. 

An emergency caesarean section was performed by the team of doctors. While she was on a ventilator, doctors decided to undergo complicated surgery, risking covid infection. She gave birth safely to a healthy baby girl. The baby tested negative has been placed in the intensive care unit.

The woman after giving birth to child was on ventilator for the next 13 days in the intensive care unit. While she in the ICU, efforts were made to boost her morale. The hospital staff placed the baby on her lap while she was on the ventilator. Doctors said that this strengthened the patient's desire to live. After 45 days of treatment, the woman tested covid negative and is in good health. The baby is also safe, said Dr. Vishal Mehta.
