The Pune Zilla Parishad has decided to distribute foodgrains to the elderly, disabled and pregnant mothers who do not have documents to get two meals a day.

Such needy people have been identified in the district and under Sharad Bhojan Yojana, wheat and rice will be distributed to 65,799 citizens from 24,372 families, said Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad.

The country is under lockdown announced due to which it has left many workers stranded in the state. There are many families who do not have ration card or money to buy food.

There are many workers who have ration card, but since it belongs to their native district, they cannot benefit from it. Therefore the Zilla Parishad has decided to provide food grains under the third phase of Sharad Bhojan Yojana to the citizens who do not have ration card or who cannot afford to buy ration.

For this, an eight-day survey was conducted in the district. The actual distribution of foodgrains to the beneficiaries will start from May 1.
