The threat of coronavirus is increasing day by day in the country and the number of patients are also increasing. The overall number of global COVID-19 cases has topped to over 8.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 453,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

With a huge spike in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, BJP leader Ram Kadam has decided to cancel 2020 Dahi Handi celebrations. Kadam's Dahi Handi at Ghatkopar is one of the biggest in the city and brings in a lot of Govinda troupes. The celebrations stand cancelled to avoid huge crowds in view of the Coronavirus crisis. The leader made the announcement on his Twitter account on Friday (June 19).

A lot celebs from the Bollywood and Marathi film industry attend the celebrations organized by the BJP leader.

"Taking into account the COVID-19 situation and the crowd that gathers, we have decided to cancel the Dahi Handi festival. However, we will celebrate Krishna Janmashtami in a simple way," said Kadam.
