Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad, who has now fully recovered from COVID-19, on Monday said that there was only 30 percent chance of his survival. Awhad, who had tested COVID-19 positive and put on a ventilator said that he did not remember the course of events between April 23-27.

"I don't know what happened between 23-27. I was tested negative on April 10. But started feeling weakness after that. I don't remember how I was taken to the hospital," Awhad told BBC Marathi in an interview. "I should have visited doctors much in advance when I was feeling unwell. But then I was overconfident and kept working, as a result of which I got infected," he further said.  Awhad said that the moment when he was detected with coronavirus, was the most challenging time for him and his family members. "My wife was already tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the entire responsibility of the family fell on my daughter Natasha's shoulders. Doctors told her that my case was 70 percent out-of-reach and only 30 per cent was left to human efforts. After this, Natasha took charge of the situation," Awhad said.

Awahad on why information regarding his health was kept secret he further added that the information regarding his health was deliberately kept secret as NCP chief Sharad Pawar, as well as Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, were of the opinion that the family should not be troubled by the constant flow of information regarding his illness.
