Maharashtra Housing Minister and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad said he will donate money to poor during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis instead of lighting lamps or candles.

Ahwad’s comment came after PM Modi, in his address to the nation, asked people to light candles and diyas on April 5 at 9 pm to mark the united fight against novel coronavirus outbreak.

I am not a fool, I am not going to light a lamp. Instead, I will instead give that money to someone poor which will help them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making an event of such serious grave situation, he said.

Jitendra Awhad, said, "The nation today expected that the Head of the country (Narendra Modi) would assure the citizens that there will be no shortage of medicines. All the commodities will be available and not a single Indian should sleep empty stomach."

"The infected patients will be given proper medical treatment and care and will surely get cured of the deadly virus. It was hoped that he would assure the poor people that no one needs to worry as a country head I am here to help you. All the expectations and hopes are shattered and in vain," he added.

"On the contrary, he asked the people to turn off the lights when the nation is already going through a phase of darkness."
