Junnar Accident: 37 Injured After Pickup Carrying Labourers Overturns at Muthalane Ghat

A serious road accident took place near Otur in Junnar taluka when a pickup vehicle carrying labourers overturned in the Muthalane Ghat on Sunday (March 22) at around 6 pm. The incident occurred at the dangerous ‘S Corner’ bend, where the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple. As many as 37 people were injured in the mishap, with Nivrutti Savalaram Muthe sustaining critical injuries. Fortunately, the vehicle did not plunge into the deep घाट below, which helped avert a major tragedy and possible loss of lives.

According to available information, the pickup vehicle (MH 42 M 5733) was transporting labourers from Junnar taluka to their homes in Umbrewadi and Satewadi when the accident occurred. A large number of women labourers were travelling in the vehicle at the time. Out of the 37 injured, four are reported to be in serious condition. Around 16 injured persons received treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Otur. Locals stated that nearly 35 of the injured were women, highlighting the severity and scale of the incident.

Following the accident, residents from nearby areas rushed to the spot and immediately began rescue operations. They helped pull the injured passengers out of the overturned vehicle and ensured they were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment without delay. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident happened after driver Thakaram Kachare lost control of the vehicle while navigating the sharp turn. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway under the guidance of Assistant Police Inspector Lahu Thate of the Otur Police Station.
