Kolhapur: City experience , stormy winds, hailstorms, and rain accompanied by thunder in Jaysingpur and the surrounding areas, including Shirol and Kurundwad on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Unseasonal rain brought much-needed relief to citizens and farmers who had been suffering under intense heat. Meanwhile, at the weekly market in Jaysingpur, both vendors and citizens were thrown into chaos by the sudden downpour. Additionally, hailstorms were reported in Danoli and Yadrav.
For the past few days, citizens had been distressed by the scorching heat. On Friday evening, around 6:00 PM, the region was battered by stormy winds and rain accompanied by thunder. Some hailstones also fell during this time. Consequently, traders in the marketplace were left scrambling. As water flowed across the roads, steam rose from the heated ground. Farmers found relief as the rain cooled the atmosphere and proved beneficial for their crops. In Jaysingpur, vegetable vendors suffered losses due to the rain.
On Sunday at 6:30 PM, Ichalkaranji and surrounding areas were struck by heavy rain, strong winds, and thunder, disrupting Shiv Jayanti celebrations. Devotees struggled to secure marquees as processions were delayed.The Meteorological Department has issued a three-day 'Yellow Alert' for the district starting Monday, forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and winds of 30-40 km/h in isolated locations. Kolhapur experienced only a brief shower with thunderstorms and wind on Sunday evening. A coconut tree fell in Kolhapur's Mirabag area, damaging a shed, but no injuries were reported.
A sultry morning and intense afternoon heat preceded the evening storm. While light showers fell in Kolhapur around 7:00 PM, reports indicate that stormy winds caused damage in several areas. In Mirabag near Rankala Lake, a fallen coconut tree damaged Sachin Chavan's metal shed; the Municipal Fire Department cleared the debris.
