Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan conducted an exclusive and candid interview with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year (LMOTY) Awards 2026. Known for his perfectionism, Aamir engaged the CM in a conversation that revealed both his personal and professional side. When asked about his marriage to Amruta Fadnavis, the CM shared a heartwarming story of how their relationship began.
Fadnavis recalled: “When I decided to get married, my mother registered my name at a marriage registration center. They gave me photos and details of several prospective brides. I picked Amruta’s photo and asked for her contact number.”
He then called her from a train and said, “I am coming to Nagpur tomorrow. Let’s meet.” Coincidentally, it was her birthday, though he only realized this later. Their first meeting took place at a friend’s house, where they spoke for almost two hours. “I talked for nearly two hours, and she spoke for ten minutes. I told her that I would stay in politics my whole life, not pursue any business, and that I would earn my own money. Her money is hers, my money is mine. I won’t ask her for anything,” Fadnavis said.
After a brief period of no contact, Amruta called him while on a work trip to Mumbai. They met and spent over an hour together, gradually growing closer. Fadnavis recounted, “I took Amruta on long drives for two to three hours until she agreed to be with me. Eventually, we visited each other’s parents and decided that our relationship would be based on mutual respect and independence — neither of us would depend financially on the other. That’s how our marriage began — and it continues that way even today.”
He also shared insights into Amruta’s professional life. “Her passion was banking. When she was transferred to Mumbai, I told her to follow her career. Thankfully, the bank accommodated her transfer. Even after I became Chief Minister, she helped arrange back-office work at the bank. Interestingly, she didn’t know much about politics before marrying me. Had she known, I don’t know if she would have married me,” Fadnavis added.
The interview offered a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of Maharashtra’s most prominent leaders, blending warmth, humor, and honesty. The candid storytelling, combined with Aamir Khan’s engaging questions, made this one of the most memorable moments of Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Awards 2026.
