The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Wednesday has ordered an open inquiry into the 'Jalyukt Shivar' scheme that was brought by the previous Devendra Fadnavis government.Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said, "A committee has been set up to investigate irregularities into the Jalyukt Shivar Scheme launched by the previous state govt. A CAG report says that large scale corruption took place under this scheme."The CAG report had stated that the scheme had no fruitful impact in achieving water neutrality and increasing groundwater level. Further in the report presented in the Legislative Assembly it stated that the execution of the scheme lacked transparency. The Uddhav Thackeray-led party had slammed the scheme sayin,"Had the implementation of the scheme been effective, water sufficiency would have been achieved in parts of the state in the real sense. But it did not happen"Total Rs 9,633.75 crore were spent on the programme of the Fadnavis government (2014-19) that aimed to make Maharashtra a drought-free state.
