Maharashtra: 11-Year-Old Twin Brother And Sister Die After Drowning In Junnar Pond
A tragic incident took place on Tuesday, May 5, in the Vasaiwadi area of Taleran village in Junnar taluka, where twin siblings lost their lives after drowning in a pond while playing. The heartbreaking accident has left the entire village in mourning. The deceased children were identified as 11-year-old Shravani Ramdas Sable and Ganesh Ramdas Sable. As schools are currently closed for summer vacation, both children have been staying at home. On Tuesday morning, around 11:15 am, they accompanied their elder sister to a nearby pond where she had gone to wash clothes, unaware that the outing would soon turn into a devastating tragedy for the family.
According to information received, while the elder sister was occupied washing clothes near the pond, the two children started playing close to the water and eventually stepped into the pond. In an attempt to swim, both siblings reportedly moved into deeper water and began drowning. Realising the danger, their sister immediately screamed for help, but she was unable to rescue them as she did not know how to swim. At that moment, no adults were present nearby, which delayed emergency assistance. By the time villagers were alerted and gathered at the pond, precious minutes had already passed, making rescue efforts even more difficult and increasing panic across the surrounding area.
After being informed about the incident, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately launched a search operation in the pond. Following nearly half an hour of efforts, Shravani was first pulled out of the water, while Ganesh was rescued a short time later. However, both children had already lost their lives before help could reach them. The siblings were quickly taken to the Primary Health Centre in Otur, where doctors officially declared them dead. The sudden loss of the children has shattered the Sable family and deeply affected villagers, many of whom gathered to console the grieving parents as news of the heartbreaking accident spread throughout the community.
Reports indicate that the Sable family has been struggling financially and survives on daily wage labour. The family consisted of four daughters and one son, making the loss even more devastating for the parents and relatives. Villagers described the children as cheerful and innocent, adding to the emotional impact of the tragedy. The heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow of grief across the entire village, with residents expressing sorrow and sympathy for the bereaved family. Meanwhile, Otur police have begun a detailed investigation into the case under the guidance of Assistant Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bajgire to determine all circumstances surrounding the unfortunate drowning incident.
