Mumbai, Maharashtra (October 22, 2024): The Shiv Sena released its first list of 45 candidates late Tuesday night for the Maharashtra assembly elections. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will contest from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency in Thane city.

The ruling party has re-nominated nearly all the MLAs who supported Shinde during his revolt against former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in June 2022. Other ministers fielded include Gulabrao Patil from Jalgaon Rural, Deepak Kesarkar from Sawantwadi, Abdul Sattar from Sillod, and Shamburaj Desai from Patan. Dada Bhuse will contest from Malegaon Outer in Nashik district, while Uday Samant and Tanaji Sawant will run from Ratnagiri and Paranda, respectively.

Sada Sarvankar will represent the Mahim constituency in Mumbai. The party has also nominated relatives of several MLAs. Kiran Samant, brother of minister Uday Samant, will contest from Rajapur. Suhas Babar, son of the late legislator Anil Babar, will run from Khanapur in Sangli district. Manisha Waikar, wife of Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar, has been fielded from Jogeshwari, while Abhijit Adsul, son of former Union minister Anand Adsul, will contest from Daryapur in Amravati district. Vilas Bhumre, son of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar MP Sandipan Bhumre, will run from Paithan.

With this announcement, the Shiv Sena becomes the second major party to release its candidate list after the BJP, which announced 99 candidates on Sunday.  Maharashtra polls are scheduled for November 20, with the counting of votes for all 288 assembly constituencies set for November 23.
