The state of Covid-19 spread in Maharashtra seems frightening. The scenario in various cemeteries and crematoria in Ahmednagar and Nanded is bad with people waiting for hours for the burial and cremation of the dead bodies.

Due to many deaths happenig because of the virus, many cemetries are refusing to accept bodies for funeral. Many cemeteries due to no option left are doing mass burial or keeping the relatives of the deceased waiting.

As many as 45 bodies were cremated at the Nagar cemetery. In Nanded, 23 bodies were cremated, while 13 bodies had to wait for the funeral.

A total of 45 bodies were cremated in Ahmednagar on Thursday. All the bodies were covid-19 infected. The figure rose sharply on Thursday. During the day, 42 people were cremated in Amardham and 3 in the cemetery. While 22 bodies were cremated together. The funeral assistance board arranged for supplies required. Four employees of the contractor appointed by the Municipal Corporation are doing this work day and night.

There is only one ambulance in the district government hospital to bring the bodies to the crematorium at Amardham for the funeral. Normally 5 to 6 bodies are brought together to Amardham from the district hospital.

Cemetery doors closed

While the number of deaths due to corona is increasing, the doors of cemeteries in Sakri in Dhule district are closed. The gate to the city's cemetery has been locked. A notice has been put up saying that permission of Nagar Panchayat should be sought for the funeral, otherwise legal action will be taken.

Nanded: 23 people cremated in six hours, 13 bodies kept waitingThe Nanded Municipal Corporation is conducting cremation at Shantidham Cemetery at Govardhan Ghat. A team of NMC cremated 23 bodies from 8 am to 2 am on Friday, while 13 more bodies were waiting in the Shantidham area for cremation. There were queues for cremation at Shantidham area on Friday. Smoke billowed from the area as several bodies were set on fire at the same time.
