Maharashtra: Man Nabbed Nearly 20 Years For Stealing Rs 4,000 Car Stereo in Latur

Latur: Police arrested absconding accused involved in a Rs 4,000 theft case registered nearly 20 years ago. Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday, that he used to keep changing  his location and was recently found working as a sugarcane cutter in Latur district. Accused Babu Laxman Sankole (41), a resident of Budhoda village under Ausa tehsil of Latur district, was arrested on Monday and produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody till January 27. 

According to PTI reports, wanted for a theft case registered at Shivajinagar Police Station in Latur, the accused had evaded arrest for nearly two decades by frequently changing his residence, leading police to place the case in a dormant file. A dedicated Latur police squad meticulously reopened the dormant case. Acting on a tip on Monday, they located Sankole working as a sugarcane cutter in the Kamalpur-Ujani area of Ausa tehsil's Yakatpur Road, officials stated. After confirming the information, police apprehended and arrested him. 

The case originated from a July 10, 2006, complaint by Arvind Vitthalrao Bhosale of Shahupuri Colony, Latur, who reported the theft of a Rs 4,000 car stereo from his vehicle parked outside his residence. The Shivajinagar Police Station initially registered the case under IPC section 379 (punishment for theft). Arrested on July 14, 2006, the accused was later released on bail but subsequently failed to appear in court and disappeared.
