Over 80,000 students in Maharashtra failed the Marathi language paper in the Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. According to official data, 10,06,896 students passed out of 10,98,623 who had registered for the Marathi first language paper, taking the overall pass percentage to 92.57 per cent. A total of 80,803 students failed the Marathi exam paper.
Although Marathi is the official language of Maharashtra, many have raised concerns about problems within the education system following the results. The outcome has sparked concern among teachers, educationists and parents.
Marathi was also taken as a second and third language by 4,13,917 students. Among them, 13,741 students failed. Altogether, around 94,544 students failed Marathi language subjects across categories in the SSC examinations.
