Mucormycosis in Thane: Number of cases increasing rapidly in district

In Thane district, the number of patients with mucormycosis infection is increasing day by day. Therefore, the district health system is ready to treat such patients. The number of patients has doubled in the last few days. So far, 117 cases of the disease have been detected in the district and 10 of them have died. Therefore, the district health department has advised to treat the disease immediately if any symptoms appear. Patients recovering from coronary heart disease or those with high diabetes are more likely to develop the disease. Therefore, the district health department appealed to such patients to take more care. But now shocking information has come to light that even those with weakened immune systems cannot rule out the possibility of contracting the disease.

Therefore, take appropriate treatment for this disease in time is the right way to fight the disease in time. In the last few days, the number of patients with this disease has been increasing rapidly. According to the report, 117 patients have been diagnosed with mucormycosis in the district so far and 10 of them have died during treatment. Three of the patients have been shifted to a hospital in Mumbai. The majority of these patients are being treated in private hospitals.

The highest number of 40 patients have been found in the Thane municipal limit. It is followed by Navi Mumbai with 34, Kalyan with 29, Ulhasnagar with 3, Bhiwandi with 1, Mirabhayender with 8, Ambernath with 1 and Badlapur with 1. Fortunately, no cases of the disease have been reported in rural areas of the district so far.

On an average, around 11 new patients are being diagnosed with the disease in the district on a daily basis. Of these, 1 died in Thane, 5 in Navi Mumbai, 3 in Kalyan and one in Ulhasnagar.

If the patient is undergoing treatment at a government hospital for this disease, they are being treated free of cost. The District Government Hospital, Thane has informed that there is sufficient stock of medicines required to treat the disease. A team of 7 doctors, anesthesiologists, ear, nose and throat specialists have been deployed at the district government hospital to treat such patients. Also four to five dentists have been made available. A team of expert doctors will also be recruited from outside and a neurosurgeon will also be made available.
