Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Andheri in Mumbai on Monday issued a bailable warrant against actor Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case filed against her by poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar. The court issued the warrant after she failed to appear before it despite being summoned.

Kangana Ranaut's lawyer, who was present in the court, tells it that they want to challenge the summons in a higher court. The court has given the date for next hearing on 26th March.

Javed Akhtar had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut on November 2020, for her allegations against him in regards to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, during a television interaction.

The complaint filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Andheri stated that Kangana, during an interview to an English news channel, said Bollywood was run by mafia. She named Akhtar as one of the celebrities who were a part of the mafia. Akhtar alleged that the video of the interview was watched by millions on YouTube alone, thereby damaging his reputation, according to a report in livelaw.in.
