The number of coronavirus cases are rising rapidly in Mumbai, the city crossed the 2-lakh mark on Monday.  On Monday, Mumbai reported 2,055 single-day coronavirus cases. The total active cases in Mumbai are 26,660 and the recovery rate is 82 percent. The civic body is taking enough measures to curb the spread of the disease. Mumbai's life line local train services for common public has been halted since March when the coronavirus lockdown was announced to prevent spread of the pandemic.

Mumbai suburban guardian minister Aaditya Thackeray on Monday gave hints about the resumption of local train services by mid-October for the common public.

Here's everything you need to know what the minister said:

Mumbaikars are facing problems while travelling to workplace, many have to travel by jam-packed buses and others are using cab services which many cannot afford. When is the government going to start local trains for common public?

- By mid-October, it is likely that we will start local trains as we are looking at a couple of more things opening up, for which we will have to start other modes of transport as well. We are cautious while opening services because we don’t want to shut down anything that we have opened up already. The approach towards relaxations has been like this for the past three months.People are facing problems while traveling to workplace. What measures are the authorities going undertake to ease congestion in public transport?

- The authorities are thinking about allowing 24x7 offices in commercial establishments. However, it is very difficult to have staggered timings as a blanket rule in a city like Mumbai. We are in talks with several offices, complexes and corporate areas where you can try to stagger the timings. Also after covid-19 threat subsides we would be able to manage the traffic better if we have flexible working hours.
