In just two months, MMRDA has built a dedicated 2170-bed Covid Hospital at Valanai village in Malad and handed it over to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday. The hospital is built using German technology and is fireproof and environmentally friendly. The foundation of the hospital is 10 inches high from the ground floor. It has steel frame, double plywood and PVC flooring. Medical equipment and supplies for the hospital have been procured from reputed companies.

The Covid Hospital will have a capacity of 2,170 beds. Of these, 70 per cent are for oxygen beds and 200 beds are for intensive care unit. There is a 190-bed intensive care unit, 1,536 beds with oxygen facilities, a separate intensive care unit for children, a 20-bed dialysis department, a 40-bed triage and a 384-bed quarantine room.

A pathology laboratory has been set up for hematology and biochemistry and state-of-the-art medical facilities like portable X-ray, CT scanner, ECG machine have been made available in the hospital. 4 tanks of liquid oxygen have been installed. There are 240 CCTV cameras. An information room has been set up at the hospital for the relatives of the patients. A room has been set up for doctors and administrative work and excellent facilities have been provided there.

Expenditure of Rs 57 crore for construction

The estimated cost of the hospital is Rs 90 crore, of which Rs 57 crore has been spent on the construction of the hospital. About Rs 33 crore has been spent on medical equipment and so far the total expenditure has been Rs 89.64 crore.
