Amidst the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, India reported 3.52 lakh fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest single-day spike registered since the onset of the pandemic. A total of 3,52,991 new COVID-19 cases, 2,812 related deaths and 2,19,272 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total active cases to 28,13,658, as per the health ministry update on Monday morning.
India's healthcare infrastructure is reeling under the pressure of the rapidly rising coronavirus cases. Over the last week, several hospitals across the countries have sent SOS messages and repeatedly flagged acute shortages in oxygen.
Amid the severe oxygen shortage crisis due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, relatives have alleged that 3 patients died due to lack of oxygen at Vedanta Hospital in Thane, Maharahtra. The hospital administration has denied the allegations. Three people have died at Vedanta Hospital, a private Covid Hospital in Vartak Nagar, Thane. Relatives of the patients have alleged that they did not get oxygen. On the other hand, BJP MLA Niranjan Davkhare visited the hospital and demanded that the administration should take appropriate action against the hospital and investigate.
The hospital administration has informed Davkhare that the patient was in critical condition. Relatives of the patients and MNS and BJP office bearers have gathered inside the hospital and a large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the hospital. Davkhare also demanded that the bills of the deceased should not be collected from the relatives. MLA Niranjan Davkhare and MNS has also demanded an inquiry againt the surgeons of the hopital
