The number of COVID-19 cases in Pune district increased by 248 to reach 8,965, while the death toll rose by 10 to touch 401, an official said on Friday.

Of the 248 new cases, Pune city accounts for 184, while 53 cases were in Pimpri Chinchwad and the rest in the district's rural and cantonment areas, he added.

Maharashtra reported 2,436 new coronavirus patients on Friday, taking the tally of cases in the state to 80,229, a health department statement said.
