Republic Day 2026: Maharashtra’s ‘Ganeshotsav’ Tableau Showcases Tradition, Craftsmanship and Atmanirbharta at Kartavya Path

Maharashtra’s tableau emerged as a visual highlight of the 77th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path on Monday, drawing attention for its powerful theme and rich presentation. Titled “Ganeshotsav: A Symbol of Atmanirbharta,” the tableau reflected the spirit of faith, cultural pride and self-reliance. It seamlessly connected age-old traditions with the idea of a modern, confident India, captivating the audience with its colour, scale and storytelling. Through art and movement, the tableau underlined how cultural festivals can evolve while continuing to inspire unity, economic independence and social participation across generations.

The presentation traced the journey of Ganeshotsav from a public movement that united people during the freedom struggle under Lokmanya Tilak to a contemporary celebration supporting local economies. At the front stood a grand eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesha, symbolising sustainability and devotion. The rear section highlighted detailed craftsmanship by artisans from Pen and Pune, emphasising the role of the festival in sustaining cottage industries and rural livelihoods. Energetic Dhol Tasha performances echoed across Kartavya Path, recreating the vibrant festive atmosphere of Mumbai and Pune in the national capital.

The 2026 Republic Day parade stood out for its historic milestones and strong international presence. For the first time, two senior European Union leaders—European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—attended as Chief Guests, reflecting deepening India–EU relations. The event also marked 150 years of Vande Mataram, with rare artworks from the 1923 “Bande Mataram Album” on display and a culture ministry tableau honouring Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Military strength was showcased through new tactical formations, advanced indigenous weapon systems, and the recognition of space and defence achievements.
