Two men were killed on the spot when a speeding truck rammed into their tempo while they were changing a tyre on the Samruddhi Expressway near Wadhona village Wednesday morning.

The victims, identified as Bilal Ahmad, 30, and Santosh Kumar Rampati, were residents of Assam. They were replacing a damaged tyre of their tempo truck, which was transporting goods from Bhiwandi to Nagpur, when a truck crashed into their vehicle near channel number 108/600.

The impact killed both men instantly, police said. The truck, bearing registration number MH-12 MV-5630, was driven by Yuvraj Bhausaheb Dhole, 30, a resident of Bhose village in Karjat tehsil of Ahilyanagar district.

Officers from Talegaon Dashasar police station, along with highway police, rushed to the scene. The bodies were sent to the rural hospital in Dhamangaon Railway. A crane was used to clear the wreckage, and traffic was restored.

Police have registered a case against Dhole. An investigation is underway.
