Mumbai: Sameer Wankhede Files Defamation Case Against Woman Over Social Media Allegations

Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede has filed a defamation case against a woman in the Andheri court, alleging that she has been tarnishing his reputation by making false and baseless allegations on social media.

The case has been registered against a woman who has been allegedly spreading misleading and unverified claims on X (Twitter). She is alleged of linking Sameer Wankhede to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s case without any evidence. According to Wankhede, such rumors have not only harmed his professional reputation but also caused him mental stress.

The complaint further mentions that the accused woman has also made baseless allegations against constitutional authorities and central investigative agencies, thereby attempting to damage their credibility.

"We have taken strict legal action to put an end to this defamatory campaign. Freedom of expression does not mean one can spread falsehoods to malign someone’s image. All allegations against Sameer Wankhede are completely false and misleading," said advocate Malika Shirzade.

Supporting this stance, advocate Zahra Baldiwala added, "Defamation laws exist to protect individuals from false accusations and character assassination. We will ensure that justice is served and that all attempts to tarnish our client’s reputation are stopped immediately."

The lawsuit demands substantial compensation for defamation and seeks an immediate injunction to prevent the accused from making any further false statements. The case has been filed before the relevant judicial authority.
