Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday lashed out at political leaders who have been questioning the Maharashtra government’s in tackling the coronavirus situation in the state.

On day four of Parliament’s ongoing monsoon session, Raut said that even the World Health Organisation has lauded the efforts of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

“My mother and my brother are infected with COVID-19. Many people in Maharashtra are recovering also. Today, the situation in Dharavi is under control. The WHO has appreciated efforts of the BMC. I want to state these facts as some members here were criticising the Maharashtra government yesterday,” the Shiv Sena leader told MPs.

“I want to ask the members how did so many people recover? Kya log bhabhi ji ke papad kha ke theek ho gaye? (if people were recovering in Maharashtra from COVID-19 by eating “bhabhi ji’s papad”).This isn't a political fight but a fight to save the lives of the people,” Raut said during a discussion on the statement made by the Union Health Minister on COVID-19 in Parliament earlier this week.

The opposition parties have constantly attacked the MVA government over the Covid-19 tackling in the state. It has also been criticized for handling of the Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

The state government has also been criticized for carrying out demolition at Kangana Ranaut’s office in Mumbai.
