Even as the number of coronavirus cases in Thane crossed the 15,000 mark this week, on Sunday, 4 staff members of the district collector’s office tested COVID-19 positive, an official said on Sunday.

“The four staff members include a deputy collector and his driver, the collector’s personal assistant and his driver. They have been moved to isolation facilities in the city, while one of them, who has comorbidities, will be admitted to a hospital soon,” said deputy collector Shivaji Patil. 

With the four new cases the total tally of employees who have have tested positive have been pushed  to 18.

Out of these, 10 are officials and workers who were operating out of the collector’s office premises, while the other eight were working on field since the lockdown began, an official stated.

While the collector’s office has around a hundred employees, it has been functioning at 50 per cent capacity for the past four months.
