A private hospital in Bhiwandi in Thane district has lost its status as a COVID-19 treatment facility after several mistakes were found in its functioning, a civic official said on Monday.

Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation's medical officer of health Dr Nitin Mokashi said the authorities observed that the hospital had high COVID-19 death rate.

Also the hospital which is located in Kamatghar area did not have specialist doctors to treat the patients and lacked physicians. Further the officer said that the facility did not follow treatment protocols of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), hence it was decided to strip the hospital of its status as a COVID-19 treatment facility.

Patients who were undergoing treatment in the hospital will be shifted to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi.

The officer said officials who had given the hospital the COVID-19 facility tag will also have to face action.
