Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Monday praised Mumbra model to contain the spread of coronavirus in Thane district. 

While addressing Thane Municipal Corporation officials, Thackeray asked them to be alert and warned them of possibility of a second wave of the virus in the region. 

Over the last two weeks, Mumbra has reported zero new cases on two occasions. Notably the region has on other days has reported less than ten cases. Thane’s deputy civic commissioner Sandeep Malvi said the sustained surveillance and prompt treatment helped to contain the spread and also the residents developing herd immunity. 

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray congratulated the doctors and Thane Police and said that the pattern needs to be replicated across the State. He has however asked the civic body not to become complacent and continue to work towards eliminating the infection. 

The COVID-19 tally in Thane reached 1,14,765 on Monday after 881 new cases were found in the Maharashtra district, officials said.
