United Nurses Association, Maharashtra have written to CM Uddhav Thackeray over state government’s intention to bring 100 nurses from Kerala to contribute to govt response to COVID-19 crisis, stating that ‘the initiatives of the Maharashtra Govt are temporary in nature’.

States such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu have shown that it is possible to recruit health personnel for permanent employment rapidly. We urge state government to also opt for this long term approach, said the United Nurses Association, Maharashtra.

The cases of COVID-19 are continuously on a surge and this has put huge pressure on the health infrastructure of the state especially in terms of manpower crunch in Maharashtra.Maharashtra Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has written to Kerala government, urging them to send a team of doctors and nurses to Maharashtra on a temporary basis in fight against COVID-19.
