Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday morning received 99,000 Covishield doses that will be distributed to the civic and government-run vaccine centres, said the civic body.

A gathering of people were seen outside Mumbai's BKC Jumbo vaccination centre following its closure after vaccines ran out of stock there on Friday."Due to unavailability of stock, the BKC COVID vaccination centre will be non-functional temporarily untill further orders," read a poster stock outside the centre.

On Thursday, the Centre released 17 lakh vaccine doses to Maharashtra.

"I have just been informed that the Center increased COVID-19 vaccine doses from 7 lakhs to 17 lakhs for Maharashtra. Even this is less because we need 40 lakh vaccine doses a week and 17 lakh doses are not enough," Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said.

Maharashtra government has alleged that cornavirus vaccines are not being supplied as per requirement in Maharashtra. Vaccination has been stopped in Mumbai due to non-availability of vaccine in many places.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday said," There are several vaccination centers that have zero vaccines now and vaccination has stopped there...I have come to know that some 76,000 to 1 Lakh doses are about to reach Mumbai by today but I don't have any official information on this."

The state on Friday reported 58,993 new cases of coronavirus, which pushed its overall tally to 32,88,540, while the death of 301 patients took the toll to 57,329, the state health department said.
