Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described the election outcome as a landmark moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the party had achieved a historic breakthrough in West Bengal. He said the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had succeeded in defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government. According to Shinde, the people of West Bengal had voted against corruption, violence and political intimidation, while choosing democracy, stability, peace and development. He also noted that the victory carried special significance as it came during the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and in the birthplace of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, calling it a major ideological and political achievement for the BJP.
As counting trends from assembly elections in five states and two bypolls in Maharashtra continued to emerge, Shinde said the BJP had made significant gains in West Bengal and that a change in government appeared likely. Through a post on X, he congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the party’s strong performance. Shinde praised Shah for working tirelessly over the past decade to weaken the Trinamool Congress stronghold in West Bengal. Calling Shah the “Chanakya” of the BJP, he credited party workers for fighting the election with determination despite alleged pressure and challenges. He further said that voters had responded strongly through the ballot box to criticism directed at BJP leaders during the campaign.
Shinde said the BJP government would now focus on the overall growth and transformation of West Bengal. He claimed the state was entering a new era of development under a “double-engine government,” referring to BJP administrations at both the Centre and state levels. According to him, rapid infrastructure growth and progress would soon follow, comparing the pace of development to a “bullet train.” He also said the BJP had received the blessings of Goddess Kali in West Bengal and Goddess Kamakhya in Assam. Referring to Assam, Shinde said the BJP’s return to power for a third consecutive term showed the people’s faith in Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s governance and development policies.
Reacting to the Baramati bypoll result in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde congratulated Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar for securing what he described as a historic victory with a margin of over two lakh votes. In his X post, Shinde said the people of Baramati had given Sunetra Pawar record support and paid an emotional tribute to Ajit Pawar through their mandate. He expressed confidence that Sunetra Pawar would continue working towards the vision of development and progress associated with the Pawar family in Baramati. Shinde added that the bypoll result reflected strong public support for the Mahayuti alliance and its leadership in Maharashtra.
