‘Won’t Let Gangs Operate In Mumbai’: Devendra Fadnavis Reacts To Extortion Threats Received By Actor Ranveer Singh (Watch Video)

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday stated that the state government would take firm and uncompromising action against anyone issuing threats or attempting to disrupt peace in the city. Addressing reporters during the inauguration of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, he responded to queries regarding the alleged threats received by actor Ranveer Singh. The Chief Minister asserted that Mumbai would not be allowed to become a playground for criminal gangs or anti-social elements. He underlined that the Mumbai Police have consistently handled such matters with efficiency and would continue to respond strongly to any attempt to disturb law and order.

Referring to the recent firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Fadnavis said the accused persons had already been apprehended. He reiterated that no gang would be permitted to operate within Mumbai’s limits under any circumstances. According to him, the city’s police force has a proven history of dealing strictly with offenders who try to create fear or instability. He warned that anyone attempting to repeat such acts would face similar consequences. The Chief Minister stressed that maintaining public safety remains the government’s top priority and that decisive measures would always be taken.

Fadnavis further observed that threats directed at film personalities are sometimes made with the intention of attracting media attention. He pointed out that when prominent actors or their associates receive such messages, the matter quickly dominates headlines and public discussions throughout the day. This, he suggested, could motivate miscreants seeking publicity. Offering reassurance to citizens, he said the Mumbai Police are fully equipped to investigate these incidents thoroughly. He confirmed that strict legal action would follow against anyone found guilty of trying to disturb peace and security in the city.

The Chief Minister’s comments came after reports surfaced that Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh had received a threatening voice message through WhatsApp, allegedly demanding a large sum of money. Upon receiving the message, the actor promptly approached the Mumbai Police and lodged a complaint. As a precautionary step, security arrangements outside his residence in Worli have been significantly strengthened. Authorities have deployed six armed personnel outside his home to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incident while the investigation into the threat continues.
