At least seven people were injured after a two-storey house, ground plus 1, collapsed in the early hours of Friday, July 18, in the Bandra East area of Mumbai. The incident took place at chawl number 37 of Bharat Nagar area near Namaj Committee Masjid at around 5.56 AM. After receiving the distress call, emergency teams, including local police and ambulances, rushed to the scene.

According to the initial investigation, a cylinder blast occurred in the building, after which some parts of the building suddenly collapsed. The Fire Department, Mumbai Police, and BMC are carrying out relief and rescue work at the spot, said Mumbai Police, reported the news agency ANI.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the entire two-storey house collapsed to the ground. At 6:19 a.m., the MFB declared a Level I emergency at 6.19 am. Responders from the MFB, local police, 108 Ambulance services, and BMC’s ward staff swiftly arrived for search and rescue operations. The injured people were admitted to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra. Initial reports suggest that at least 8 to 10 people were likely buried under the collapsed house debris. 

"The incident occurred at 7.50 AM today. According to the initial investigation, a cylinder blast took place in the building, after which some parts of the building suddenly collapsed. Relief and rescue work is being carried out by the Fire Department, Mumbai Police and BMC at the spot. 12 people rescued from under the debris have been admitted to the nearest hospital, where they are undergoing treatment," said Mumbai Police

At first, three to four people were rescued from the debris and rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. Later, more people were pulled out from the debris. Police said that at least seven people were injured in the incident. At 6:55 AM, the MFB upgraded the emergency to Level II and deployed additional sources at the collapse site. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
