In a swift breakthrough, Kandivali Police have solved an ATM cash van robbery within six hours of the crime, arresting two accused and recovering a major portion of the stolen amount. The incident took place in Kandivali West, where ₹63.13 lakh was stolen from an ATM cash van.
According to police, the main Accused, identified as Sushant Kasare (32), who was employed with the cash-handling company, orchestrated the theft. His accomplice, Sufiyan Razzab Ali (23), was also arrested in connection with the case.
The incident occurred around 9:40 pm on April 21, when a cash van belonging to CSM Infosys Limited arrived at an Axis Bank ATM located in Rajkiran Co-operative Housing Society in Kandivali to replenish cash. During the process, Kasare allegedly distracted the security guard and other staff members. Taking advantage of the situation, he fled with two bags containing cash and escaped in a car waiting outside.
Upon receiving information, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Jadhav and Senior Police Inspector Karan Sonkavde formed four special teams to track down the Accused. CCTV footage from the area confirmed that the accused had fled in a vehicle. Further technical analysis and mobile tracking revealed that the suspects were heading towards Raigad via the Mumbai-Goa Highway.
Acting swiftly, a team led by Police Sub-Inspector Shrikant Magar pursued the accused and intercepted their vehicle near Babhli-Nagothane in Pen taluka of Raigad district. The police apprehended Kasare on the spot and recovered ₹62.74 lakh from the vehicle. His accomplice, who had allegedly provided the car for the crime, was also taken into custody.
Police officials stated that the crime was meticulously planned, but was cracked within hours due to prompt technical investigation. Further probe is underway to determine if more individuals were involved in the conspiracy.
