Mumbai Airport: Customs Officers Seize 19.78 kg Hydroponic Marijuana Worth Rs 19.78 Crore Passengers

Officers of the Mumbai Customs Zone-III at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) intercepted two narcotics consignments on October 20 and 21 based on specific intelligence inputs. According to officials, two passengers arriving from Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific flight CX-663 were found carrying 7.864 kg of hydroponic marijuana concealed in their checked-in trolley bags. The seized contraband is valued at approximately Rs 7.86 crore in the illicit market.

In a separate operation, another passenger arriving from Bangkok on IndiGo flight 6E-1052 was caught with 11.922 kg of hydroponic marijuana, worth Rs 11.92 crore. The total seizure amounts to nearly 19.78 kg of hydroponic marijuana with a combined value of Rs 19.78 crore concealed inside a trolley bag. All three accused have been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In the first case, officers intercepted two passengers arriving from Hong Kong by flight CX-663. Upon examination of their checked-in baggage, Customs officers found 7.864 kg of hydroponic weed concealed inside a trolley bag. The narcotics, estimated to be worth Rs 7.86 crore, were seized and both passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In the second case, Customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok by flight 6E-1052. A detailed inspection of the passenger’s baggage led to the recovery of 11.922 kg of hydroponic marijuana, concealed similarly within a checked-in trolley bag. The recovered contraband, valued at around Rs 11.92 crore, was seized, and the passenger was taken into custody under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Customs officials said the arrests highlight the vigilance of officers at Mumbai Airport in curbing the smuggling of high-value narcotics through international routes. Further investigations are underway.
