Mumbai Based Teen Arav Kaul Launches 'Project Zul' In Jammu And Kashmir To Teach Robotics and Coding to Students

Mumbai based 17-year-old teen Arav Kaul is inspiring students in Jammu and Kashmir with his project zul-a pioneering science, technology, engineering and mathematics This initiative is aimed at igniting their passion for robotics and coding. Arav is a student of Mumbai’s Dhirubhai Ambani International School, and the program was launched to equip students in grades 9 and 10 with hands-on skills in microcontroller programming. While talking about the initiative, Arav stated that "The initiative seeks to foster innovation and technological growth in the region, empowering young minds with practical knowledge for the future”.  Arav an international robotic champion who has represented India in competitions like FIRST, Robotex, and MakeX, started Project Zul. He wants to share his passion for robotics with students in the Union Territory, a place that's important to him because his father is from there.

“Robotics is more than technology it’s about problem-solving and creative thinking," He added that his mission to make STEM education will be accessible and enjoyable. Teachers have enthusiastically embraced the training, describing it as engaging and practical, and are integrating these skills into their classrooms, he said. Since the starting the program, Arav has trained teachers from 15 govt and private schools, both in-person and online to effectively teach robotics. Additionally, he has also distributed free Arduino kits, enabling over 1000 students to build real world machines. The program, currently running weekly sessions throughout March and April, guides teachers and students from basic in circuitry and sensors to advanced coding and project design. The final showcase will be done later this month will features participant's innovations, from practical gadgets to innovative solutions.

Anupama Sharma from Jammu Sanskriti School said “We require more such initiatives to enhance our technical and practical capabilities, enabling us to better engage our students.” Minakshi Gupta from DPS added “I found creating circuits incredibly rewarding. This project offers students a unique approach to learning.” The groundwork for Project Zul began in February when Arav reached out to multiple schools across Jammu and Kashmir, garnering enthusiastic participation from educators.  “Schools eagerly accepted the opportunity, receiving kits, curriculum plans, and ongoing guidance. For students, this initiative provides a rare chance to bridge theoretical knowledge with hands-on experimentation” Beyond the classroom, Project Zul is cultivating a culture of innovation among participating schools, with Arav envisioning this as just the beginning.  He is calling for additional partnerships with schools, tech-savvy educators, and community supporters to expand the program’s reach, seeking donations of laptops, dedicated learning spaces, and assistance in promoting the upcoming showcase.

Why Arav chose Jammu and Kashmir?

For Arav, this endeavor holds personal significance. “My father inspired me to begin here,” he shared.  “I want these students to see the endless possibilities.” With sessions underway, increasing school involvement, and growing enthusiasm, the project stands poised to ignite a passion for STEM among the next generation in Jammu and Kashmir.
