Mumbai: Domestic Worker from Malabar Hill Duped of ₹1.31 Lakh by Fake Airport Official
Mumbai: a 31-year-old domestic worker from the Malabar Hill area allegedly losses Rs 1.31 lakh in online fraud. According to complainant, fraudster posed as an official from Delhi airport. Fraudster claimed that airport has received parcel , containing clothes and USD 30 in cash. Receiving cash in a parcel was illegal and action can be taken through the High Court and to avoid that she need to pay some fine. Out of fear, the complainant transferred Rs 36,000 via Google Pay from her mobile number.
According to FPJ report, FIR has been registered against unidentified caller at Malabar Hill police. Complainant identified as Nikita Nitin Kaneri stated that on January 13, at around 9 am, while she was at work at Neelima Building, she received a call. The caller refused to send the parcel to the woman's address, demanding Rs 36,000 to avoid legal action and release the parcel. He provided bank details, and she transferred the money via Google Pay out of fear. Later, the caller demanded an additional Rs 95,000, and she managed to transfer Rs 60,000 on January 13. However, she couldn't send the remaining amount due to transaction limits.
On Jan 14, 2026, around 10:15 am, she transferred Rs 35,000, totaling Rs 1.31 lakh, to the same account. A further demand of Rs 1.49 lakh raised suspicion, revealing the fraud. She reported to cyber crime helpline 1930 and Malabar Hill police, who registered a case against an unknown person for cheating and online fraud on Jan 16, 2026. Investigation ongoing.
