Mumbai: Gold Chains Worth ₹12 Lakh Stolen During Lollapalooza Concert at Mahalaxmi Racecourse
Taking advantage of the massive crowd at the Lollapalooza concert, unidentified thieves allegedly carried out a series of thefts, stealing five gold chains collectively worth over ₹12 lakh. The incident occurred at Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Tardeo, where the popular music event was held on Saturday evening.
According to police, the thefts took place between 6.30 pm and around 9.45 pm amid heavy crowding at the venue. Tardeo Police have registered cases of gold chain theft against unknown persons and have launched a search for the accused based on CCTV footage collected from the event premises.
One of the complainants, Abhishek Kishor Jawarkar, a Goregaon resident working with a private company, had attended the concert. During the programme, an unidentified thief allegedly snatched his 15-gram gold chain worth approximately ₹2.25 lakh. He realised the theft later and approached the police.
Subsequent inquiry revealed that four other attendees were also victims of similar thefts. Aarav Rahul Manawat and Nikhil Shivdas Rathod lost gold chains weighing 16 grams and worth ₹2.20 lakh each, while Parth Atul Champanerkar’s 20-gram gold chain valued at ₹2.5 lakh was stolen. Another victim, Kshitij Anil Ambade, lost a 22-gram gold chain worth around ₹3 lakh.
In total, the thieves made away with five gold chains weighing 88 grams and valued at approximately ₹12.10 lakh. Following the complaints, police registered multiple cases and seized CCTV footage from the venue for investigation.
Police officials stated that so far five victims have lodged complaints, but there is a possibility that more people may have lost gold ornaments or mobile phones during the event. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether additional thefts occurred during the concert.
