Mumbai: Man Sets Woman’s House on Fire in Borivali Over Minor Dispute

In a shocking incident, a habitual offender set a woman’s house on fire by pouring petrol over it following a dispute over a chair. The accused also allegedly threatened the woman and her neighbors. The Borivali police have arrested the accused after registering a case based on the woman's complaint.

According to police reports, the complainant, Laxmi Prabhakar Bonatala (34), resides in Bhimnagar, Gorai, Borivali. She earns her livelihood as a domestic worker. On March 31, a dispute broke out between Laxmi and the accused, Vishal Udmale alias Junglee, over sitting on a chair in the locality. The accused initially abused her verbally and later returned with a stone, further escalating the situation.

However, the matter did not end there. On April 1, at dawn, Vishal allegedly brought petrol and poured it on the door of Laxmi’s house (House No. 56) before setting it on fire. As neighbors rushed to help, the accused threatened them as well. Fortunately, the locals managed to douse the fire in time, but the incident left the neighborhood in a state of panic.

Following the incident, Laxmi approached the Borivali police station and filed a complaint. Taking the matter seriously, the police registered a case under BNS Sections 79, 351(2), 115(2), 326(G), and 131. Subsequently, the accused Vishal Udmale was arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody until April 4. Further investigation is underway.
