Mumbai Metro Line 3: MMRC Successfully Conducts Trial Under Mithi River Route (Watch Video)

Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 on February 25 conducted a rail trail on the route that runs under the Mithi River. The train movement commenced ahead of the Kotak BKC station to Acharya Atre Chowk stretch. It spans 9.77 kilometers and there are six stations on this route.

Taking to X, the official handle of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) posted a video of the trail. They wrote, “Metro update: MMRC has commenced train movement for Phase 2A on the Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk stretch, covering 9.77 km and 6 stations! Stay tuned for more developments.”

This route might open for commercial operations by March 2025. The inauguration by March 2025 is subject to inspection and the commissioner of metro rail safety should also issue safety certifications before it is opened to the public.

The twin tunnel portion on this line runs beneath the Mithi River between the Bandra Kurla Complex and Dharavi stations. This part was the most tricky and challenging from the construction point as it was the first of its kind and there were no references or examples to deal with problems faced during construction.

The six stations between Kotak BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk are Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
