A shocking incident of assault on a traffic police constable came to light in the Amar Mahal area of Chembur after a youth allegedly violated traffic rules, abused the officer, and ran his scooter over him, causing injuries. Police have taken the main accused into custody and launched a search for the third accused.

The incident occurred around 6 pm on Friday under the Amar Mahal Bridge in Chembur. Traffic Constable Pradeep Parashram Shinde (35), attached to the Chembur Traffic Division, was regulating traffic along with Havaldar Tandel when a youth riding a Yamaha scooter jumped the signal and attempted to flee towards M.G. Road without wearing a helmet.

When Constable Shinde clicked a photograph using the e-challan machine, the rider, identified as Mohammad Faizan Moshfik Khan (23), allegedly lost his temper and began abusing the constable in the middle of the road.

According to the complaint, when the constable signalled him to stop and asked for identification, the accused attempted to escape by allegedly riding the scooter directly over Constable Shinde. In the attack, Shinde sustained serious injuries to his left thigh and his uniform was torn.

As the situation escalated, two associates of the accused — Ujef Qadar Qureshi (35) and Wasim Abdul Rahim Sheikh (36) — reached the spot. They allegedly pushed and manhandled the constable and civilians who tried to intervene, thereby obstructing government work.

The injured constable immediately alerted the traffic control room through his walkie-talkie. Teams from the Chembur Traffic Division and Tilaknagar Police Station rushed to the spot. Police cordoned off the area and detained Mohammad Faizan and Ujef Qureshi, while the third accused, Wasim Sheikh, initially fled the scene. He was later identified through video footage.

Constable Pradeep Shinde was taken to Rajawadi Hospital for medical treatment.

Tilaknagar Police have registered a case against the three accused under Sections 118(1), 121(1), 132, 352, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
