The Mumbai Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive against autorickshaw drivers repeatedly violating traffic rules and endangering passenger safety between February 4, 2026 and February 15, 2026. The crackdown was effectively implemented at major junctions, railway station areas, and busy traffic corridors across the city. During the drive, officials focused on offences such as refusal of fare, carrying excess passengers, overcharging, illegal parking, driving without a valid licence, signal jumping, and rash driving. As per official data, as many as 23,744 cases of fare refusal were recorded. Additionally, 8,469 drivers were found carrying extra passengers, while 456 instances of overcharging were detected. In total, 36,153 actions were taken during the special campaign, resulting in the collection of ₹97,49,700 through e-challans. The department also recovered ₹1,47,24,731 towards pending e-challan dues. As part of the enforcement action, 815 autorickshaws were seized. Proceedings to suspend the licences of the concerned drivers have been initiated through the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Officials stated that the primary objective of the drive was to instil discipline among autorickshaw drivers and ensure that commuters receive safe, transparent, and hassle-free services. The police further clarified that similar drives will be conducted regularly to curb traffic violations and maintain order in the city’s transport system. Passengers have been urged to report incidents such as fare refusal, overcharging, or negligent driving through official helpline numbers or social media platforms. The Mumbai Traffic Police reiterated its commitment to road safety and the protection of citizens’ rights.
