One person was injured after a fishing boat, owned by Reshma Moses Dhake of Bhati Koliwada, caught fire and sank in deep waters off the Mumbai coast on Sunday morning, March 9. According to the Hindustan Times, a crew member of the Sea Princess vessel was injured in the incident.
The fire broke out due to a stove or gas flare-up. However, an investigation is still going on to determine the exact cause of the blaze on board Sea Princess. At the time of the incident, seven crew members were on board. The rescue team reached within half an hour after the incident. The blaze caused extensive damage to the vessel's front section.
One crew member sustained burn injuries on both legs and a hand during the incident. Another fishing boat brought the injured person to the shore and transported to Shatabdi Hospital. He said to be stable now and receiving further treatment.
The remaining crew members were rescued safely by nearby boats, said Prabhakar Koli, president of the Bhati Koliwada Gramseva Mandal to Hindustan Times. According to an eyewitness, the vessel sank at around 5 pm after a fire.
