Mumbai Police said on Wednesday that stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has not yet come in contact with them amid the ongoing controversy over his parody song targeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The police are investigating whether Kamra made satirical comments about other public figures before the Shinde incident.

"We are investigating instances of satire by Kunal Kamra on other individuals, made before the Deputy CM Eknath Shinde instance. If it is found that he made satirical comments on any politician or actor or sportsperson, action will be taken. Kunal Kamra has not come into contact with Mumbai Police yet," Mumbai Police said as quoted by ANI.

The controversy erupted after Kamra performed the parody song at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar on Sunday night. Following the act, Shiv Sena activists vandalized the club and the hotel where it is located. In response, Kamra refused to apologise. “I will not apologise or hide under the bed waiting for the controversy to die down,” he said in a statement late Monday night.

The Khar police registered an FIR against Kamra after Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a complaint accusing the comedian of making defamatory remarks against Shinde. Kamra, who is reportedly in Puducherry according to his Instagram bio, has been asked to appear before the police within a week.
