Mumbai Traffic Police constable Sushant More, who was critically injured in a road accident while on duty on the Eastern Freeway, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday. The accident had occurred on January 28, following which he was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sion Hospital. Police have registered a case against a Mumbai Port Trust official who was driving the car involved in the incident.

 

According to a Sewree police officer, the accident took place on January 28, and since then Constable More had been admitted to Sion Hospital for treatment. After his death on Monday, the police added Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the FIR registered in the case.

 

As per police information, the incident occurred on the evening of January 28 when Constable Sushant More was performing duty as a traffic rider on the northbound Rey Road ramp of the Eastern Freeway. During this time, a speeding car rammed into him. Eyewitnesses stated that the car driver attempted to apply brakes, but by then Constable More had already come under the vehicle. The impact caused severe injuries to his face and other parts of his body.

 

Officials from Sewree police station said that the accused driver has been identified as 57-year-old Shirish kumar Jore, who is employed with the Mumbai Port Trust. At the time of the accident, he was travelling towards Chembur in his car.

 

Police have registered a case against the accused under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. A medical examination of the driver was conducted after the accident, and the reports confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

 

The news of Constable More’s death on Monday morning sent a wave of grief across the police department. The department has assured all possible assistance to the bereaved family of the constable who lost his life while on duty. Further investigation into the case is currently underway by the Sewree police.
