Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link Gets India’s First Advanced Precast Crash Barrier System

Godrej Enterprises Group has introduced India’s first advanced precast concrete crash barrier system on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link project in partnership with DELTABLOC®, an Austria-based global specialist in vehicle restraint systems. The Missing Link initiative, being executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is considered one of the state’s major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, cutting travel time, and strengthening commuter safety on the expressway. The newly installed crash barriers are designed to withstand high-impact collisions and improve protection for motorists on high-speed corridors. The system also reflects the growing adoption of internationally certified road safety technologies in India’s infrastructure sector.

The crash barrier system deployed by Godrej Enterprises Group complies with strict international safety norms, including the European EN 1317 standards. The technology has been engineered to offer high containment capabilities, redirect vehicles during collisions, absorb impact forces, and minimise the risk of serious injuries to passengers. Built specifically for challenging road environments and expressway traffic conditions, the DELTABLOC® systems are already operational in more than 45 countries worldwide. Officials said the installation on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link project marks a significant step in bringing globally tested road safety infrastructure to India while supporting safer and more resilient transportation networks across rapidly expanding urban corridors.

The Maharashtra Government’s focus on sustainable infrastructure development is also reflected in the Missing Link project, where recycled construction materials are being used extensively. Godrej Enterprises Group stated that it has been actively promoting circular construction practices and collaborating with domestic as well as international organisations and start-ups to create future-ready infrastructure solutions. According to the company, its Recycled Construction Materials business registered a 57 per cent year-on-year growth, highlighting increasing demand for sustainable and high-performance construction technologies. The Group has also contributed engineering products and solutions to several major infrastructure projects, including the Mumbai Coastal Road, Versova–Bandra Sea Link, Mumbai Metro Rail, and the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
