Mumbai: A tragedy occurred at the construction of the Sewri–Worli Connector in Parel where a 19-year-old worker died after the crane operator error, causing the suspended iron frame to swing and strike Ravi on the chest and abdomen. This accident occurred on Tuesday (May 5) morning, around 12:15 am near KEM Circle. The deceased identified as Ravi Anil Giri, was a native of Nepal.
As per FPJ report, police said that workers were transporting heavy steel frames as part of an ongoing infrastructure project. Giri, along with other laborers, had been assigned to move four steel frames from Acharya Donde Marg to Parel TT late at night. A crane was used to lift two heavy metal frames during the operation. Giri and another worker accompanied the lifted frames and were returning for the remaining two when an accident occurred. Police reported that the crane operator, Mohammad Anas Shaikh, allegedly erred while lifting the frames, causing one to swing and strike Ravi in the chest and abdomen.
Ravi sustained severe injuries and lost consciousness and was rushed to KEM Hospital by Shaikh and another worker, but doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 3:05 am. The Bhoiwada police have filed a case against the site supervisor, Anil Shivdayal Giri, and the crane operator for causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. The incident is under investigation.
