The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a major water supply disruption affecting several parts of the city for 44 hours next week. The cut will begin at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, January 20, and is expected to last until 5:00 AM on Thursday, January 22. The disruption is necessary to facilitate the diversion and connection of a primary water main as part of the ongoing Metro Line 7A project.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently executing the Metro Line 7A project, which connects Andheri (East) to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). To accommodate this infrastructure, a major watercourse has been diverted. Due to this, BMC announced a 44-hour water cut in the K-East division. Workers perform the technical task of cutting and connecting the diverted lines to the city's main supply network.
Wards and Localities Affected
The work will impact the water supply in the G-North, K-East, S, H-East, and N wards. Residents in these areas will experience either a complete shutdown or significantly reduced water pressure.
K-East Ward: This area will face the most significant impact. Supply will be completely closed in Marol, Andheri, SEEPZ, the Airport area, and surrounding colonies. Some pockets may receive water at low pressure.
G-North Ward: The Dharavi area will experience low-pressure water supply during regular morning and evening hours.
H-East Ward: The entire Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) area will see a drop in water pressure, particularly during the night hours.
S Ward: Several settlements in Vikhroli and Bhandup West will face either low pressure or a total suspension of supply.
N Ward: Housing complexes in parts of Vikhroli West and Ghatkopar will have low-pressure supply during specific hours.
The BMC administration has urged Mumbaikars to store sufficient water before Tuesday morning to last the 44-hour period. Boil and filter water for several days following the restoration of supply, as the initial flow after such repairs can often contain sediments.
