Mumbai: Senior BMC Official Held for Cheating Woman on False Marriage Promise
Assistant Commissioner of the K-East Ward of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Nitin Shukla, has been arrested for allegedly deceiving a woman after establishing a physical relationship with her on the false promise of marriage. The incident has created a stir in civic circles, while the Vikhroli Parksite Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
According to police officials, the accused, Nitin Shukla (38), came in contact with the complainant while both were associated with work in the Building Proposal Department at Vikhroli. Taking advantage of the acquaintance, Shukla reportedly developed close relations with the woman.
Police said Shukla allegedly told the woman that he was planning to separate from his current wife and that their relationship was strained. On this assurance, he allegedly promised to marry her, following which the two entered into a relationship.
However, over time, the woman realised that Shukla was repeatedly avoiding marriage despite giving assurances. After she lodged a complaint with the police, the matter came to light.
Based on the complaint, the Vikhroli Parksite Police registered an offence under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested the accused.
Further investigation is underway and police are questioning the accused in connection with the case.
Officials said Shukla had earlier served as Ward Officer in the F-North Ward. He was later given additional charge of the K-East Ward before being appointed full-time Assistant Commissioner of the ward.
The registration of such a case against a senior civic official has sparked discussions within the municipal administration. Police said all aspects of the case are being examined and more details may emerge during the course of investigation.
