Mumbai's Parel Station Reopens Following Rs 19.41 Crore Revamp Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Mumbai’s Parel station becomes the first station building to be opened after getting an infrastructure push under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The new building has an elevated parking lot, a huge ticket-booking counter, and many other amenities.

The cost of upgrading the station building which will benefit more than 37,000 passengers, is rs 19.41 crore. Dr Swapnil Nila, chief public relations officer, of Central Railway (CR), said that the station building, including a parking lot, is open to the public. Another building is coming also up nearby.

Apart from Parel, two more suburban stations in Mumbai - Vikroli and Kanjurmarg - are being upgraded at the cost of Rs 19.16 crore and Rs 27.01 crore, respectively.

A senior official from the Central Railway said that this upgrade includes aesthetically pleasing station buildings, Swachh Bharat-inspired sewage treatment plants for a cleaner environment, visually appealing platforms adorned with captivating landscaping, and upgraded passenger amenities.

To upgrade the amenities at the stations, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme entails creating master plans and implementing them gradually. In 2023, the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was launched.
